All about Lakshmi
Lakshmi, the Goddess of Fortune

Oftentimes foolish people call Laxmi and other Goddesses as mythology because of their ulterior motives. Laxmi is not only the Goddess of wealth but also the Goddess of Supreme virtue. She is the Goddess of all virtuous and chaste women. Men also worship her to gain the favor of Vishnu. Some leftist authors who call themselves mythologists such as Devdutt Pattnaik have done a great disservice by writing loosely about her. His writings seem to be very blasphemous hurting the spiritual sentiments of millions of devotees of Laxmi.

In the Veda, there is detailed information about Laxmi. There are hundreds of thousands of Laxmi that serve Vishnu and all His Avatars. As per Bhagavatam and Bhagavad Gita, Krishna is considered Bhagavan Himself along with all His expansions that are called Kalaa कला. So Brahmaa, in his famous poem, Brahm Samhita says, “Krishna is served by hundreds of thousands of Laxmi.”

govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi

Here in Brahma says, “I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, the original Purush who is tending the cows, yielding all desire, in abodes built with spiritual gems, surrounded by millions of purpose trees, always served with great reverence and affection by hundreds of thousands of Lakshmi.”

Laxmi, the eternal consort of Vishnu is the most sought after Goddess by the entire humanity. But the truth of the matter is that she never leaves Krishna or any of His Vishnu expansions generally referred to as Vishnu Tattva or Kalaa कला.

In this shloka Laxmi herself says, “Many Devata including Shiva and Brahma undergo severe penances and austerities to receive my benedictions. But I do not favor anyone, however great he may be, unless he is always engaged in the service of Ajit (another name for Vishnu with thousand arms). Because I always keep Ajit within my heart, I cannot favor anyone but a devotee of Ajit or Vishnu.”

Therefore worship of Laxmi, independent of Vishnu is incomplete. Most of Vedic scriptures recommend worship of Laxmi Narayan, Laxmi Narsimha, Laxmi Vishnu, Radha Krishna, Sita Ram, Rukmini Vitthal and many other names, where Laxmi’s name is used along with an incarnation of Vishnu.

Srila Prabhupada explains, “In one of the pastimes, She appeared as Ramaa (रमा) from samudra manthan (churning of the ocean). Because of her exquisite beauty, her bodily features, her youth, her complexion and her glories, everyone, including the devata, the demons and the human beings, desired her. They were attracted because she is the source of all opulences. Because of her exquisite beauty, her bodily features, her youth, her complexion and her glories, everyone, including the devatas, the demons and the human beings, desired her.

They were attracted because she is the source of all opulences. While walking among the Gandharvas, Yakṣas, asuras, Siddhas, Cāraṇas and denizens of heaven, Lakṣmīdevī, the goddess of fortune, was scrutinizingly examining them, but she could not find anyone naturally endowed with all good qualities.

None of them was devoid of faults, and therefore she could not take shelter of any of them. Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: In this way, after full deliberation, the goddess of fortune accepted Mukunda as her husband because although He is independent and not in want of her, He possesses all transcendental qualities and mystic powers and is therefore the most desirable.”

Lakshmi herself publicly proclaims that she never leaves the chest of Vishnu. She eternally adorns the chest of Vishnu as Srivatsa. She is referred to as Shri because she resides on the chest of Vishnu which is called Shrivatsa. She takes pleasure in being referred to as such. Bhagavan Vishnu is also referred to as Sri Vishnu which is a complete term to refer to Him.

The worship of Lakshmi is since the beginning of creation according to Vedas. In Japan she is worshipped as Kisshōten. In Tibet, she is worshipped as one of Bodhisattva. She is worshipped in all Buddhism, Jainism, and other cultures since the time of creation in different names.

The whole world has gained an immense knowledge in science, medical science, philosophy mathematics, music, culture and other allied subjects. The Faith based colonization of India was justified to teach Hindus of a better culture. While the colonizers have disappeared, plagiarizing actual vedic History, their leftist descendents have continued to mock the Vedic heritage.
